Dungeness Spit

I lead a hiking group, and I thought I’d start off the season with an easy and snow-free hike. So, I took 13 people up to the Dungeness Spit on the Washington coast. This hike was perfect! Not only was it flat (and therefore easy), but it was a sunny day! That last detail was significant, because the rest of western Washington was cloudy and rainy. Dungeness Spit is in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, so it is usually dry.

The highlight of the hike is the lighthouse at the end of the spit. It is manned by volunteers who keep the lighthouse and the grounds immaculate.

To make a long story short, everybody enjoyed the hike and the sunshine. Here are a few pictures for you:
